AMBALAMPS​

The word of the day is AMBALAMPS. You know, that thing that comes to your house with lights and sirens, picks you up and brings you to the hospital? Ambulance, ambalamps, same thing.

Some of you, who are in medicine, may look at this word and immediately start laughing. This is the word that kills me, as I hear it every single day that I am in the hospital. I don't know if it is an accent thing, a slang thing, an educational thing, or simply an absolutely remarkable phenomenon. What has happened in so many people's lives to distort the pronounciation of such an easy and common word to such a degree? ​

We may never have an answer to that question, but there is one thing that we will always have - and that is ambalamps to come to our rescue. ​
